Joining
Team Beastie
By Chantal Fisher
I embraced the change when I was given the opportunity to be a support runner.
“So often we fall behind, become despondent or fail at success out of fear for change. A change that might have been our ‘friend’, change that might have been our ‘savior’, change that might have been our ‘comforter’, facing our fears, I always say. We should be reminded that change happens every day without a thought or action from our side – it is almost involuntary.”
I was introduced to The Chaeli campaign in early 2018 when we decided to run for a charity.
I fell in love with road running just over 8 years ago and I welcomed the change of a new life style; the joy and pleasure of road running and embracing the discovery it allowed in my life each and every day.
But, loved it more when I decided to join Chaeli Sports and Recreation Club.
I assisted Earl Siadie in the Peninsula marathon in February 2019 as a support runner for Chaeli as part of Team Beastie. The road was tough but Chaeli kept me entertained with her stories of previous races.
I joined Chaeli Sports and Recreation Club as my club of choice in January 2019 and what an amazing year I had, filled with a whirlwind of emotions.
My very first marathon was the Peninsula Marathon as a support runner where we decided to take on the first few km with one flat wheel.
The second marathon was the OMTOM 56km 2019. Once again Chaeli proved to me that with the right mindset that anything is possible. Her custom-made jogger “Brucie’s” front wheel broke a few metres from the start. Chaeli’s words to us as always, “it’s ok” kept us calm and collected, so, once again, we decided to take on the road – with cable ties! We made it though, in 7hours 25 minutes and 51 seconds!
Comrades 2019: what can I say! A race of note: strong, bold and brave we took to the streets of Durban. It was a wonderful feeling to see the people from all over South Africa showing much love and support.
The love and acknowledgment for Chaeli was the most beautiful few moments and I must say, I cried more on the road than ever before, was the most amazing few hours on the road than ever before.
I was approached by Zelda to serve as a Board member of the Chaeli Sports and Recreation Club and what an absolute privilege it is; totally new to me but I love to hear and see the excitement of all our fellow members.
2020 was a tough year for most but so sad when you have a heart like Zelda and not able to do what she does best, helping others selflessly. So now, in 2021 we look forward to a year filled with abundant blessings and positive changes, working together and accepting and embracing each and every one.
