Mpumelelo Mhlongo

Mpumelelo Mhlongo is a T44 Paralympic athlete that has represented South Africa in x3 World Championships and x1 Paralympic Games. He holds the T44: 100m, 200m and Long Jump World Records. In his last World Championship, he was the best performing male athlete for South Africa, coming away with a silver and bronze medal in mixed class competitions whilst breaking the T44 100m and Long Jump World Records.

He is currently reading towards his doctorate in Chemical Engineering, with the main to create a circular economy for plastic through turning waste into a valuable feedstock.

In his own words: “My current purpose in life is shining a light to the approximately 80 million people living with disabilities in Africa through sports which is at times the ultimate tale of the human spirit.”
