Cycling

Our Cycling Programme

Each year the Chaeli Riders participating in the Cape Town Cycle Tour (and other races) comprise conventional cyclists and adaptive cyclists which include hand cyclists, buggy teams and tandem cyclists. Cycling is one of three main sporting codes supported by the CSRC.

Making History …

Our interest in cycling started with the inclusion of a single hand cyclist, Thomas Micklem, as a Chaeli Rider in the 2009 Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour (now the Cape Town Cycle Tour). CEO of The Chaeli Campaign, Zelda Mycroft, joined Thomas as a Chaeli Rider to participate in the 2010 and 2011 Argus Cycle Tours on a hand cycle. In 2011 Mukhtar Lee became the 1st CSRC hand cyclist to complete the Cycle Tour. The Pedal Power Association funded the purchase of additional hand cycles supported by the Chaeli Riders.

In 2013 CSRC provided 3 of the first 4 Buggy Teams entered into the Cape Town Cycle Tour – making history with these being the first buggy teams to be allowed to participate in the largest timed cycle race in the world.
